New Mexico Mule Deer Hunting

Hondo Ranch

Brandon Ray Mule DeerElite is offering archery mule deer hunts on the Hondo Ranch for the January, 2009 season. The Hondo Ranch consists of almost 5,000 acres located in the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains. The ranch borders the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation for three miles.

The mule deer rut in this part of the world is late December through early January. The archery hunt coincides with the latter part of the rut.

A maximum of two archery deer hunters will be booked per year on this ranch. The licenses for the hunts are guaranteed without having to go through the draw.

The bucks on this ranch are typically in the 140 to 160-class. Bucks in the 170 and 180-class have been seen on the ranch each year during the elk hunts. But that class of deer is certainly going to  be the exception, even during the rut.  Elite took one hunter on the ranch during the 2008 season. He harvested a nice 140-class buck on the third day of the hunt.

Accommodations will be provided either in a cabin at the ranch or in Elite's new, modern lodge.  All meals and field transportation will be  provided. Airport service is available into Albuquerque, NM.
