Gordon Ranch Elk Hunting

Darrell HaekerElite has secured the elk-hunting rights to approximately 10,000 acres of prime elk country in the Sacramento Mountains of central New Mexico. The terrain consists primarily of large meadows interspersed with stands of pinon pine and juniper. Water is strategically located throughout the ranch and contributes to the quality of the habitat.

Elite will offer one guaranteed-license archery hunt for the upcoming year on the Gordon Ranch. The hunt will be conducted during the third week of September to maximize the time deepest in the rut.

The 2008 season will be the fourth season Elite has conducted the archery hunts on the Gordon Ranch. Bulls were killed during each of the years by the second day of the hunt.

There are not nearly the numbers of elk on the Gordon Ranch as there are on the Alan and Hondo Ranches. However, by taking only one hunter per year during the archery season, Elite has been able to take a good bull off this ranch each year.

Cunningham ElkAccess to the hunting areas will be with 4-wheel drive vehicles and ATV's. After that, the hunt will require you to cover the hunting grounds on foot to locate the bulls.

The primary hunting tactics for the archery hunts will be spot and stalk, waiting for the elk near water, and calling.  The spot and stalk, and calling techniques are used more in the mornings when the bulls are active and  bugling. The afternoons are usually spent watching water holes.

The licenses for all hunts are guaranteed without having to go through the draw. Accommodations will be provided in Elite's lodge. Visit The Lodge.

Your guide will drive you to the ranch each day. All meals and field transportation will be  provided. Airport service is available into El Paso, TX or Albuquerque, NM.

I proved that even at 65 years old, you can still hunt with Elite if you are in good condition. What a hunt! What great guides! The accommodations are excellent. It is very obvious that Elite Outfitters mean what they say about their hunts and their guides. I won't hesitate for a second to go again. Fulfill your dreams and book a hunt with Elite."
