Alaska - Brown Bear Hunting

Brown BearElite is excited to be offering Alaska brown bear hunting through a joint venture with a Master Guide in southeastern Alaska.

Southeastern Alaska offers the finest brown bear hunting in the world and your master guide has over 20 years experience guiding here. Bottom line, he's one of the best in one of the best places.

The brown bear hunts are conducted primarily on Admiralty Island and portions of mainland SE Alaska. Admiralty is renowned for the highest density of brown bear in the world. The low estimate is 1.7 bears per square mile.

Hunts are offered in both the spring and fall.  However, most of the hunting occurs in the spring when the bears are just coming out of their dens and making their way to the beaches where you will hunt them.

Brown BearAll brown bear hunts are conducted from a 52'x18' craft, the Chester B. The vessel serves as a floating lodge for the bear hunts. An 18' Lund skiff is used to hunt for the big bears. You and your guide will slowly cruise the beaches in search of bears. Once a trophy size boar is spotted, the skiff is used to approach the beach downwind of the bear.  Once on shore, the final approach on the bear will be made quietly on foot.  The average shot is within 100 yards but bears have been taken out to 200 yards.

Fall hunts are more physical and definitely more interactive.  You and your guide will hunt the bears on the salmon streams as they are feeding on the spawning salmon.  The average shot is 30-40 yards making this a popular hunt for bowhunters.

Brown BearThe average bear harvested will have a squared measurement of between 8 1/2 foot up to 10 foot.    Most bears will weigh 600lbs to 900 lbs. We have taken bears that were estimated to be over 1000 lbs.  Success rates are generally 85-90 percent.

Another option on all brown bear hunts is you can hunt black bear on a kill-fee basis. You pay the kill-fee only if you harvest a black bear. The population of blackies is high in southeastern Alaska and excellent quality can be found as well.
