Elite
offers archery and rifle elk hunts on almost 8,000 acres of
private land in the edge of the Sacramento Mountains. The Alan Ranch
borders the famed Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation for over 7 miles. There is
no finer free-ranging trophy elk hunt in the country. It must be experienced to
be believed.
No high fences and no releasing of elk. Just a solid, fair-chase trophy elk hunt. Elite does not guarantee anything regarding hunting. Hunting is hunting. But with that said, based on past year's experiences, most all hunters get shot opportunities at 300+ bulls.
A maximum of only two hunters per hunt will be booked on this ranch. To provide the best opportunity to harvest mature bulls, each hunter will be guided 1 on 1, exclusively.
The terrain consists of juniper, pinon pine, oak brush and grass covered hills and mountains. Food plots and 10 water tanks have been maintained exclusively for the elk. No significant numbers of cattle or livestock of any kind have grazed the Alan Ranch for years. In essence, this ranch exists for the elk.
The
country is rough and much of it is densely forested with pine and juniper trees,
which is one of the reasons why the elk like it. The terrain also makes the
ranch extremely
challenging to hunt.
Access to the hunting areas will be with 4-wheel drive vehicles and ATV's. After that, the hunt will require you to cover the hunting grounds on foot to locate the bulls.
The hunting licenses for all hunts on the Alan Ranch are guaranteed without having to go through the draw. The hunt price includes a landowner permit, which is a voucher that allows you to purchase a $555 hunting license. Other than drawing a tag, the landowner permit is the only way to obtain an elk license in New Mexico, residents and nonresidents alike.
Accommodations will be provided either in a cabin at the ranch during the archery hunts or in Elite's lodge during the rifle hunts. Visit The Lodge.
All meals and field transportation will be provided. Airport service is available into El Paso, TX or Albuquerque, NM. You can either rent a vehicle and drive to the lodge or charter a van from a local service to bring your group to and from the airport.
Alan
Ranch Archery HuntsElite offers archery hunts on the Alan Ranch during the first three weeks of September. Only two hunters per week are booked.
The 2007 season was Elite's first season to conduct the archery hunts on the Alan Ranch. The landowner has conducted most of the archery hunting during past seasons, while Elite had concentrated on the rifle hunting. Needless to say, the 2007 archery season produced four bulls that scored over 320 inches out of six hunters.
The primary hunting tactics for the archery hunts will be spot and stalk, waiting for the elk near water, and calling. The spot and stalk, and calling techniques are used more in the mornings when the bulls are active and bugling. The afternoons are usually spent watching water holes and wallows.
Accommodations for the archery hunts are in a primitive cabin on the ranch. Nothing fancy, just a place to sleep and eat.

Rusty Heitzman, TX 940-686-5410 "Top-of-the-line outfit Don't bother checking with other outfitters, just call Elite. Quality game, great camp and super people."
Shannon Payne, TX 281-369-3225 "I can't imagine a finer place to archery hunt for elk. The bulls are vocal and receptive to calls and I had a tremendous amount of opportunities. The country is beautiful and relatively easy to maneuver but being fit will help. A 'Can't Miss' and I would recommend it to anyone."
Jonathon Hubbard, TX 281-474-7551 "Great guides, incredible ranch and unbelievable elk."
John Wilmesher, MO 636-530-7107 "Elite's guides are expert hunters themselves. They have the knowledge and ability to put you in the right place at the right time. Add in beautiful country, quality animals, and you have a truly exceptional hunting experience."

Alan
Ranch Rifle HuntsThe rifle hunts are conducted during October through December. The rifle hunts will be a spot and stalk game, exclusively. The bulls feed on the slopes of the canyons at night and during first and last light. Glassing extensively in the low-light hours to locate the bulls is the primary tactic. Once spotted, it's a matter of closing ground to get within shooting range.
You can expect to see bulls every day of the hunt. In fact, it is normal to see more bulls during many hunts than cows, and good bulls.
The Alan Ranch has produced over 92% shot opportunities at 300+ bulls for Elite's rifle hunters over the last seven years! Actual harvest success on 300+ bulls has been over 80%! During 2007, Elite's clients were 100% successful on 320+ bulls! You cannot find a better low-fence ranch to hunt free-ranging elk for under 10 grand. That's anywhere in North America. Period.
If you will show up in reasonable shape and prepared to hunt on foot, Elite's guides will get you a shot at a 300-class or better bull. That's a promise if you will hold off shooting one of the lesser bulls, which many find it difficult to do.
Accommodations for the rifle hunts are at Elite's Lodge. Visit The Lodge.

ReferencesSue Johnson, WI 608-637-7229 "If elk hunting was my favorite big game, I'd have a standing, yearly hunt scheduled on the Alan Ranch. I would never again consider hunting with any other outfitter. My hunt produced a perfect, massive, 6x6 bull that went 360 and change."
Mark Michalsky MD 410-885-3191 "An incredible ranch with apparently a never-ending supply of bulls that anyone would be ecstatic to shoot. I still struggle with the never-ending part. At one time I thought this is too good to be true, but I now know otherwise."
Nick Fox, MO 314-210-4165 "Be in shape and be prepared to shoot 300 to 400 yards. Definitely worth the price if you are looking for bulls over 300 inches."
Rick Verbsky, WI 920-450-7731 "Choosing an outfitter can be a risky and scary proposition. Talk is cheap and advertising is easy. With Elite Outfitters, you get exactly what they say....Honesty, quality, and hard-working people. There is no risk! If you're looking for a guaranteed, easy, meaningless hunt, this is not the place for you. But, if you're looking for a hunting experience that will create life-long memories, look no further! the guides at Elite do more than find you an animal to shoot at, they hunt with you. Feel free to call me."
Dennis Webb, GA 912-663-7230 "Elite Outfitters back up what they say. This hunt was my first elk hunt. Talk about hunting with pros! Friendly, professional, it was like hunting with old friends at home. It's rough, beautiful country. If you live at sea level, try to spend some time at 6,000 to 7,000 feet before the hunt. My legs were fine, but my lungs were not."
Jay Massaro,
FL 305-481-8396 "After searching the internet and reading
reviews in forums for over a year, the obvious choice for elk-hunting guides was
Elite Outfitters. It is truly a first-class experience with a high-success
opportunity for large elk. It was proven first hand by myself and the repeat
guests I met at the lodge."
Dale and Janice Price, TX 940-464-3463 "Unbelievable game and lots of it. Great guides who work hard to put you on the bulls. Thanks Brian and Johnny, you know we'll be back!" Note: Dale and Janice have hunted on the Alan Ranch 7 times between them since 2001 and they have taken 7 bulls over 320 inches!
Ralph Delius, MI 248-444-9601 "Lots of 320+ bulls. Unbelievable bull:cow ratio. You've got to see it to believe it"
Mark Hatnetiaux, IL 618-664-3924 "This is one of the best hunts for a trophy bull. There are more quality bulls in one location than I have ever seen! With top-quality guides, it makes an excellent hunt."
Jarrett Southard, TX 972-627-0067 "When you hunt with Elite, be in good shape, listen to your guide, and enjoy yourself. The elk are on the ranch, and you can trust your guide to do his very best for you. I did not hunt with Brian, but if he is anything like Johnny, you are in for a great hunt and a great guy to hunt with."
Jim Cameron, TX 512-473-2293 "Listen to the advice given by Brian and Johnny and follow it. Expect the long shot and be prepared for it. Bring shooting sticks and know how to use them. We'll be back!"

Steve Scharnweber, SD 605-321-8450 "As a person that has experienced guide "promises" before, I would encourage other hunters to set their sights high for a good bull. I would also tell them to be in shape and have their guns sighted in! The opportunities are here and you need to be able to take advantage of them. We have finally found an outfitter who talks us "straight-up" about what to expect. We are coming back!"
Bill McKillip, SD 605-782-1553 "A very good elk hunt with relatively easy access. The walking was pretty easy for an elk hunt. There is an opportunity for very large bulls."

Greg Jackson, AL 251-602-5631 "If you have hunted elk other places but not seen many good bulls, like myself, this hunt will be a pleasant change of pace. You will see more bulls than cows, and good bulls! Bring your mountain lungs."
James Mullins, GA 706-625-4527 "The people know what they are doing. Elite had outdoor writers in camp and treated everyone the same. They did not make my partner and I second-class hunters. They know the area and how to hunt it. If you hunt New Mexico, hunt with Elite Outfitters."
John Anderson, CA 619-517-8900 "The areas these guys hunt as well as how they hunt are testimony to their success. If you show up on this hunt, have done your physical and mental homework, you will have a chance at a trophy class animal. From my first conversation while setting up the hunt, till my departure after the hunt, I was treated like family. I can't say enough about them."
Brian Austin, TX 713-932-9519 Johnny and Brian are two top-notch people that are honest and will do whatever it takes to ensure a successful and enjoyable hunt."
Mark Soward, TX 830-305-2765 "Bring and use long-range equipment. The bulls are definitely there, you just have to be willing to go hunt them."
